Shingles vaccine update from 1 November 2023. Shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus (varicella zoster virus) and has a rash usually with pain and burning.
The vaccine Shingrix is the new Shingles vaccine on the National Immunisation Program (NIP). It is more effective in preventing shingles but requires two doses. For more information discuss this with your doctor.
Shingrix is free for people who meet the criteria.
